Treeton today

E-mail Print PDF

Treeton at the close of the 20th Century and into the new millenium is still a village with its own distinct identity but shorn of its colliery and therefore its only major employer it is increasingly becoming a dormitory suburb for Sheffield and Rotherham, new residents taking advantage of its convenient access to the motorway network.

In the 2001 census the population of Treeton stood at 2,514 people, but in the place of the colliery there now stands a substantial new housing estate of private dwellings, which has greatly increased the village population again, bringing in a generation of newcomers just as the sinking of the pit did in its own time.
