TREETON LOCAL HISTORY GROUP: Chesterfield Canal Trip

Instead of the usual group meeting, this month the members met at ‘The Mill’ public house at Brimington and went for a trip on the narrowboat ‘John Varley’ on a beautifully restored section of the Chesterfield canal. This was requested by members after a visit in March 2009 by Peter Wild who gave an interesting talk about the canal and its restoration. The Chesterfield Canal Trust volunteers worked very hard to make this an interesting and enjoyable evening even to the point of getting out and manually towing the boat with a large rope when it was stuck in weeds. All the members agreed that it was a very enjoyable evening out.
