January 2016 Meeting Report

E-mail Print PDF

Our meeting for January was the dramatic story of the Great Sheffield Flood of 1864, as told by Peter Machin.  This was a flood that devastated parts of Sheffield, on 11 March 1864, when the Dale Dyke Dam up near Bolsterstone broke as its reservoir was being filled for the first time. At least 240 people died and more than 600 houses were damaged or destroyed by the flood.
