After the battle

Well, what a weekend that was!

With the unpredicatable weather we really had no idea what might be in store, but someone up there must have smiled on us because in the event the weekend stayed remarkably dry and sunny, with the only rain falling late on Saturday evening, when the re-enactors from the Sealed Knot (and not a few members of the History Group) were safely in the shelter of the beer tent raising a well-earned glass!

The Sealed Knot put on a spectacular show on both days of the weekend, from the morning parade on Saturday through the two battles and the 'cameo' 17th century church service at St Helen's on Sunday morning.  The entertainment was helped along throughout by the authentic period puppet show of "Compton's Company of Puppet" and the re-enactors in the Living History encampment, not to mention the free childrens bouncy castle and fun trailer and the ever-popular face painting.

It was inevitably the battles on Saturday and Sunday afternoons that attracted the most attention and biggest crowds, estimated to be over 1,000-strong on Sunday afternoon, makin this the biggest event to hit Treeton for many years! Treeton Local History Group are very proud to have been associated with this free event for the village and are grateful to everyone who played a part in making it such a succcess.

Special thanks must go to Andrew Roddison who stepped in so ably to organise funding and push the event   through despite some serious setbacks and to the event organisers Cristy and Chris who ensured that everything ran so smoothly on the days themselves.
